DISCOVERING BIODIVERSITY
Exploration routes through the territory with visits to local businesses
Ostana and the Upper Po Valley area offer numerous activities that highlight the value of the environment and its biodiversity: beekeeping, organic farming, bread and pastry making using local products and flours, agritourism, alpine pasturing, green building, circular economy projects, and much more. Join us on a journey to discover these realities.

Exploration Routes of the Hamlets
Exploration Routes of the Hamlets and the Historical and Social Context through Place Names Rooted in the Centuries-Old Farming Culture
Thanks to the Atlas of Toponymy of Mountainous Piedmont project, originally conceived by Arturo Genre from the Department of Language Sciences at the University of Turin, the Monviso area boasts a valuable heritage for preserving and remembering rural place names. Through specially designed routes, we will explore the names of places and, through those places, uncover their hidden stories.

Exploration routes and sound recording experiences
Exploration and Sound Recording Routes
Routes for exploring and recording the sounds that define the landscape and environment, immersed in the biodiversity-rich setting of the Monviso UNESCO MAB Reserve.
The soundscape of this natural environment, shaped by the elements of the UNESCO reserve, allows us to directly discover the inhabitants of the forest and various natural contexts of the Upper Po Valley: from mixed woodlands of ash, maple, and other "pioneer" species, to beech forests; from larch woods to the peat bogs near the Po River’s sources; from glacial lakes to alpine pastures; from cliffs to scree slopes and karst caves. All of these environments contain precious ecological niches that we will explore by mapping their characteristic sounds.
This work is part of a broader project to map the territory through sound, with developments also planned in the field of citizen science.
Duration: Half day or full day

T (medium-low) – Tourist trail
or
E (medium) – Hiking trail (depending on the agreed route)

Fauna and Flora Observation Routes
Observation routes for fauna and flora in the environmental settings offered by the Monviso UNESCO MAB Reserve.
Through “photo-hunting” workshops or foraging and processing wild herbs, we will discover the key features of the natural environments in the Upper Po Valley territory: during the deer rutting season, spring and summer blooms, autumn foliage, winter ibex sightings, and other unique floral and faunal characteristics.
These routes will be organized on an ad hoc basis throughout the year and will target different interests—keep an eye on our upcoming proposals!
Info:
Each observation workshop will have its own specific cost. Many of these experiences will last 2 to 3 days.
For more information or to directly propose a workshop focused on “biodiversity enhancement,” please contact us andrea.fenoglio@visoaviso.it
