Open Library of Ostana
BAO: For Truly Open Knowledge: By and For Everyone!
The Open Library of Ostana represents the fulfillment of a project with deep roots in time, made possible today thanks to donations that over the years have enriched the municipality’s book collection and the commitment of the local community. Gradually, all thematic collections dedicated to the Mountain are being made accessible: history, sports and hiking, culture, sociology and economy of the High Lands, alpine architecture, mother tongues, theology and interreligious dialogue, ethnography, Wars and Resistance, rural cooking and gastronomy, ecology and science, cinema and animation.
BAO in CAI-CAISiDoc
Thanks to the valuable and essential partnership with CAI – Italian Alpine Club, the CAI National Museum and Library, since September 2020 the Open Library of Ostana has officially joined the CAI-CAISiDoc Documentary System for cultural heritage. Its current bibliographic collection related to the Mountain and related themes is available for consultation on the BAO page of the national CAISiDoc OPAC.

BAO in the National Library Service:
Since 2021, BAO has been part of the National Library Service as an affiliate of the Fossano-Saluzzo Savigliano Library System. The collection is currently being cataloged, but all new additions and a large portion of the materials are already available for consultation on the Piedmontese OPAC Librinlinea on the dedicated BAO page.

BAO for Youth:
The original core of the Open Library of Ostana is dedicated to children and young people. BAO is a meeting place where participants can take part in workshops, attend screenings and book presentations, and imagine together the Mountain of tomorrow. The creation of the youth section has strengthened partnerships with organizations and groups at the forefront of promoting books and multilingualism as elements of knowledge and friendship among peoples: D’Une Langue A L’Autre (DULALA), Illustrada Festival of Mondovì, Chambra d’Òc.
BAO AUDIOVISUALS:
BAO also manages an increasingly rich collection of audio and video materials, including numerous essays and films dedicated to animated cinema (this section is ideally dedicated to the memory of the leading Italian critic and historian in the field, Professor Giannalberto Bendazzi, whose major works are included), as well as documentaries and recordings on alpine and rural topics.
Since December 2020, the curators of BAO have started selecting a series of interesting books… also to be listened to.
